The Refuge Hostel sits along Roby Miller Road, where the Appalachian trail system unfolds at your doorstep and the air grows thin enough to clear your thoughts. We opened our doors to travelers who measure a stay not by amenities alone, but by the quality of silence, the warmth of the community, and the closeness to something wild.

Every room is furnished with reclaimed materials from the region. Every window frames a different angle of the mountains. The common kitchen, the stone fire lounge, the deck where dawn arrives first — these are the spaces where strangers become companions and solo travelers find their rhythm again.

We are five minutes from the Roan Mountain Trailhead, a short drive from the rhododendron gardens in bloom, and far enough from the city to hear yourself think.
